Welcome to USA Survival!  This site was set up in order to share information, tips, and tactics to use in a survival or emergency situation.  We welcome you to add your comments and thoughts to our site.  We are all current or former Special Operations Forces (SOF) who have trained and used in real-world situations the posted tips ad techniques for survival or austere situations.  Whether you are in the mountains of Afghanistan or the various terrains in the United States of America, we hope to bring you insight and advice that may help you get out of an emergency situation.

We want to state that by no means we are the end-all answer, there are plenty of outdoorsmen that have years of outdoor survival skills.  But since the majority of folks live in either an urban or suburban area, we want to share our knowledge in emergency situations that may come of use in cases of situations where there is no help from professional services.  This may be getting out of a city during a tornado, hurricane, earthquake or any other natural disaster that may leave you stranded alone with only yourself and your family.

In these current times we see or hear on the news the dangers that people face with “man-made” disasters…or otherwise properly called, terrorists activities.  We have been fortunate in that we as a nation, have not faced the misfortune of other countries.  Whether this will occur in the United States in the future is skeptical to some, but to others it is just a matter of time.  If  you have ever been through a disaster or emergency situation, such as a major hurricane (Katrina), you know that civility breaks down quickly…the state and federal law enforcement and rescue  agencies are overwhelmed and you are left to fend for yourself and your family.  I can add that I was caught up in helping a friend extract her family from New Orleans after Katrina and what I saw and encountered was only something you see in the movies.  Just trying to fill our van with gas, we were surrounded by a mob that wanted our gas and we had to resort to pulling armed security while we filled our tank with our gas cans.  That experience as well as my 20 plus years in the service made me think “what if”?

“What if” your area comes under severe disaster?  What will you do?  Are you prepared? Do you have the right tools and training to evacuate or stay in place? How to you obtain food, clean water, provide shelter, or protect yourself?  These are questions that slip by most people’s thoughts until something strikes that puts you in an emergency situation, then you are left only with what you have on hand and even then, you may not know what you have that may be of use.  That is what this site is all about.  We are not saying the world is going to end, but you must be prepared in the event of an emergency.  This can be anything from being snowed in and the electricity goes down…the secondary and  tertiary effects such as power outage which can result in no heat, no way to cook, unavailability of clean water or medical help.  These are just some issues that can arise in a simple snowstorm in an area that is not accustomed to that type of weather.  Looting is a real issue that become a way of life for those who do not have and what do you do to protect yourself or how do you move out of the affected area safely.  We are not saying that our way of life is going to breakdown, but what if….

There are many sites that offer advice for survival, some are great sites and others are just blogs put together without any prior experience by the “weekend warrior”.  Where w differ is that all of us have served in combat and many have been through S.E.R.E (survival, escape, resistance, and evasion) training due to our jobs.  Our experience varies from Special Forces to the 75th Ranger Regiment and other units within the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.  Most of us have in one way or the other have experienced austere situations…whether it was on a Long Range Patrol/Strategic Reconnaissance, part of a Task Force, or in a training scenario that simulated a survival situation.  All of us are senior Non-Commissioned Officers or Commissioned Officers each with 15-20 years of service.  Many of us have prepared ourselves and our families for emergency situations because we know that disaster can strike at any moment.  We have prepared our plans, gear, tools, weapons, and  food/water contingencies so that we can either hunker down or move to a safe location in case of an emergency.  This is not to say that we are believers in “doom and gloom” but rather that it is better to be prepared and have, than not be prepared and need.

We hope that you will follow us on our site and if anything we post by ourselves or others helps, then we have done our job.
